Job Description


  • The Safety Manager reports directly to the Corporate Director of Health & Safety and is responsible for assisting in the development, implementation, and management of safety programs.  The Safety Manager will work closely and provide guidance to all levels of management regarding safety/compliance concerns or needs.


  • Conduct written safety evaluations at LKQ facilities providing recommendations to help protect team members from potentially hazardous work methods, processes, or materials.
  • Develop and conduct safety related webinars and training programs as needed.
  • Support Fleet Safety Manager in compliance efforts through knowledge of Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.
  • Develop Safety committee topics and support facility safety committees in continual safety improvement.
  • Conduct Industrial Hygiene testing for selected locations, document results, and provide a written report.
  • Participate in continuing education course to remain up to date on changing regulatory requirements within OSHA, EPA, DOT, NIOSH, etc.
  • Directly support the Sr. Director of Risk Management and Director of Health & Safety regarding projects associated with safety and risk.
  • Provide assistance to general managers in conducting accident investigations and determining root cause.
  • Measure effects and results of safety programs already implemented.
  • Assist all US based locations with OSHA Recordkeeping.
  • Performs other functions as required.

Job Requirements


  • High School Diploma and 3 to 5 years’ experience in related field.
  • Knowledge, experience and understanding of OSHA, EPA, DOT, etc regulations and requirements.
  • Willingness to travel 50% of the time and work extended flexible hours.
  • Possess leadership and interpersonal skills that allow for effective communications, both written and verbal.
  • Active listener who allows for open communication.
  • Ability to read and follow directions.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to handle and maintain confidential information.
  • Ability to assume responsibility, display initiative, and exercise good judgment.
  • Working knowledge of Industrial Hygiene Sampling Equipment (i.e. sampling pumps, noise dosimeters, light meters, voltage regulator, voltage meters etc.).
  • Ability to work efficiently and demonstrate effective organizational skills.
  • Hold a valid driver’s license and possess insurability.
  • Clean driving record; Knowledgeable in the use of computers.
  • Ability to efficiently produce reports, letters, spreadsheets etc. using Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to lift 40 lbs., and wear appropriate personal protective equipment.


  • Bachelor Degree in Occupational, Environmental, Safety and Health.
  • 7+ years’ experience in handling multiple locations safety management.
  • Certified Safety Professional.
  • CPR and first aid certified.
  • Have completed a defensive driver course.
